Where's extra special bundle of love in my mailbox? Musics? Not here. Bet someone couldn't remember their own eyes if they weren't glued to the front of their brain eh? Bet so. I bumped in to Mr. Crabfart while I was fertilizing my lawn this morning... HE WAS playing Bloppalball. Ever heard of it? It's silly. HAHAHAHAAHA Yeah. I'll tell you later. HE SAID that he will talk now HERE. HE SAID that it's now the time for talking. There's a couple of things he decided to share, and here's those things then:
"The most important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." - Charles Dubois
"The role of the infinitely small is infinitely large." -Louis Pasteur
"Suppose someone were to say, 'Imagine this butterfly exactly as it is, but ugly instead of beautiful.'" -Ludwig Wittgenstein
"One windy day two monks were arguing about a flapping banner. The first said, 'I say the banner is moving, not the wind.' The second said, 'I say the wind is moving, not the banner.' A third monk passed by and said, 'The wind is not moving. The banner is not moving. Your minds are moving.'" -Zen Parable
Ok, enough dilly dallying. Time to do what I came here to do. Time to get it done. Starting... NOW.

i don't know that the stupidity and self righteousness america specializes in will ever end. it is much easier to be thoughtless, selfish, unempathetic, materialistic, closed minded, and superficial than it is to be the opposite. that's a god damn important question, "how will we end it?" more people need to wake the fuck up. that's a start, and people who are waked up need to try to wake other people up. the woke up are an extreme minority. people are way too egocentric and puffed up with pride. self analysis and honesty, people. god dammit.
mike

On TV they say Americans are the freest in the world. Sometimes TV is not wholly truthful:
"America now has 726 prison inmates for every 100,000 people, compared with 142 in England, 91 in France and 58 in Japan."
If that weren't bad enough:
"At least 2,225 juvenile offenders are serving life sentences without parole in the US, compared to a total of 12 elsewhere in the world.
The sentence is explicitly prohibited by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child -- a treaty which only the US and Somalia have not ratified."
It's appalling and racist. How will we end it?

mike,
actually there's not as much job obligation as you'd think. atleast in the job i do. i work from 7 a.m. to about 2 p.m. i work at an assault craft unit (it's interesting, i work on hovercrafts) so there's not as much work to do as there is on a ship. i stand duty (the navy has no janitors but there are some police but not that many, so people from a command do their jobs and then on their duty day stand watches and clean)once every 5 days. so it's always rotating. so i do have a good amount of free time. the only thing that's really hindering about it is obviously being an american in japan you stand out in the extreme for obvious reasons. but the base does offer tours to different sites around japan. i live in a small town by japanese standards (about 250,000 people) so it's pretty easy to find things. and i got lucky becuase most of my friends here have been here for a while and are cool with the japanese people so i can get into alot of the bars without a japanese escort. (there's two bar districts here one that's super american in a bad way and sleazy and one that's super japanese. i go to the japanese bars but most places won't let you in without a japanese escort) and they showed me where alot of things are and one even taught me how to gamble japanese style. i've learned some of the language, but i think in october i'm gonna try and take a japanese class offered by the college office here. but it's fun overall becuase here atleast, i've found that living somewhere will get someone to understand more about a place than by just visiting.
yes, i'm thinking about starting to have some fun with music. since i've been i've learned to play bass from my friend millis, who plays guitar. but i want to try and do something on my own with my bass and a beat box.
by the way does anyone know of a good downloadable beat box?
dan <nothingness12@hotmail.com>
-
no sir, dan, a mixing board is not necessary. if you want to mic up a drum kit or something with a bunch of microphones, then maybe it would be useful, but most 4 tracks have individual levels and eq on each channel that work just fine. especially just for fun with sound. you can do a hell of a lot with just the 4 track.
i thought i recognized your email address. ha. hi dan. you're doing well enough to be signing this guestbook, so that probably means you're doing pretty well. that's good.
amusing and good to be in japan? you should take plenty of time to breathe in that otherly culture and landscape there you lucky. i'm sure there's some unluckyness about being there out of job obligation, but there's probably plenty good about it, no? cool that you're going to start screwing with recording...yes?
mike
-
does anyone know:
if i want to record something with a four track that has adjustable levels and i have good headphones do i need a mixing board/equalizer type deal? it's just for fun with sound.
mike,
i was the dan that lived at tony herrada's house during the summer of 2003, before i left for the navy. and i was at a few of tim weakly's parties last summer. i got the sampler from tony when i was home on leave last month. and right now i live in sasebo, japan.

Jodie's grade: A+. good job jodie. you'll graduate with honors. you're on the honor roll.
it seems like the next rebekah tape recordings, the dancey one and the recorded-representations-of-stuff-that-is-usually-played-live one will not be finished until some time in 2006. since we now have the ability to do (pretty much) ANYTHING AT ALL THAT WE WANT TO as far as recording goes, we will probably be extremely meticulous and hyper analytical with the things we record as to maximize our approval of them post-completion.
rebekah's tape probably won't play in front of people for another month or two at least. we've got a lot of stuff to do, like make up an entire new set.
i publickly endorse Homogenized Terrestrials. please do try their 'patience is a fuse', their 'perception theories', their 'theories of repitition', and their 'attacking the scars'. very tasty, good with nectarines. (homogenizedterrestrials.com)(there are audio samples for some of the recordings)

no shows for rebekah's tape until maybe august...
have too much damn shit to do first. got jobs, got lives, got sleep, got composing to do. when we're ready we'll play a whole bunch. we aren't ready for a while yet though.
***right now rebekah tape is working on a "dancey" album (rebekah's tape is floating nipple energy) which will have much intended to be sort of 'groove'-like things on it.. there will be a big crazy show in celebration of that recording finished. rebekah tape dance party. crazyness. hot mist, fresh fruit, many video screens, colors, smells, hotness, dancies. seriously. it'll probably happen in september.
***the sequel to 'radiation flowers/professionalism' is being worked on, too. that'll probably be done around the same time as the 'is floating nipple energy'.
***cory as 'gushing cloud' is doing a split cd with mr. basslines, who will be under the moniker of Audible Paz. grooves. beats. textures, subtleties, fragments, weridness, warmness, relaxation. that baby'll probably be done by august. celebration at cancun place will happen. august. surely.
***mike has been working on a recording that will be under the name "DOG HALLUCINATION" for about a year and a half. that baby'll probably be done before this fall. very much atmosphere/sounds/softness/texture/layers. mostly instruments only. non voice majority. streamy.
......that's about it for the upcoming recordings probably..as much as needs to be mentioned.

I don't think Bloppy is saying much of anything at the moment. He seems to have a pretty nasty case of mumps, measles, chicken pox, rubella, psoriasis, excema, AND whooping cough. Before his voice failed completely however, he did manage to croak out that he blames Mike completely for his multitudinous maladies due to the fact that he keeps getting locked in the cold damp basement and never, ever gets any fresh air or sunlight. As for me, I haven't had a chance to listen yet but I will soon.

well dave, i think that perhaps the annoying-ness of the spam scared people away. but lets hope that's only temporary. mike and i are trying to make new stuff to look at on the website and also discuss.... so dave, any thoughts on the new FULL-LENGTH MP3 SAMPLES? HMMMMMM???? what does bloppy say?

Ok, what I meant to say is that I find it funny that now that the spam problem has been fixed, there's pretty much nothing being posted anymore. By this logic I deduce that either the only reason people posted here was to discuss the spam, or pretty much the only traffic to this site was in fact the spammers themselves. Food for thought. Gimme some lovin baby.

Short notice show! Rebekah's Tape = playing live at the Ninth St. Pub, this friday, may 6th. First is Jared Walter's band, then Rebekah's Tape, then Egon's Unicat. Also, if anyone is interested in helping our friends Egon's Unicat be more likely to win money than say, your average cover/bar band, you might be interested in hopping on over to the Lounge earlier that night and voting them as Best Modern Rock Group. Well, they probably won't have categories like that. If Primus were to win a grammy, what category would they fit in? Hard Rock? Bluegrass? Comedy? Jazz?

i had so much damn fun tonight that i can't sleep. i got all kinds of crazy happy excitement hormones running around in my brain and they won't let me pass out. i'm a little irritated about it really. i had to get up and do something so now i'm writing on this internet. dammit. it was so cool to play with our good friends the egon's unicat at that 9th street pub. everybody was there, it was great. so damn fun. i hope somehow similar things can happen again in the future there. 9th street pub isn't so bad when there's good people all over in there. cool that dave the sound guy was so good. he made it good for everybody, that was nice. yep. i just wish i could sleep now. now is when i will try to sleep again.
**long live goodness with music anywhere and everywhere.

Well, it's finally happened. Rebekah's Tape has been kindly asked by our pals Egon's Unicat to play with them at the, *gasp*, 9th St. Pub in ol' La Salle. This is short notice, but the date is this wednesday (tommorow) march 9th. Play time is approximately 10 pm , with Egon's Unicat playing after us. Owen might be running a little late, so if this is the case, we'll figure something out. I might perform some of my sampler music, or if Shawn and Mike are up for it perhaps a little improvising to kill a little time. Sorry to our under 21 friends. I think there might be a little cover charge, but not sure how much (2-3 bucks?). Come see us, drink, and be merry. Focus on the merry part too. Perhaps if Dancing Nancies, Unicat, others, and us play more pub shows, we can morph the regular old crowd into an amalgam of regulars and newbies, egos and ids, yins and yangs, peacefully co-existing. Come and see us if you are into the sounds of colon cleansing.

Dave,
We'd love to do something like that. Right now, I don't have time to research that. If I/you can find a guestbook template with that feature, I could probably rig it up. However, I don't know enough about writing programs in order to write in something like this. But keep the suggestions coming, as you think of them. Feel free to email me if there's too much spam. I've been cleaning house once a week.

Note to JJ and/or Mike:
Why don't you try doing something like yahoo does when people sign up for accounts? Have a randomly generated number or word that can't be picked up by spam bots and set it up so when someone goes to post on the guestbook they type the randomly generated number/word into a box to authenticate that it actually is a genuine posting and not miles of mindless crap?

I just noticed how much spam you get, it seems worse than ever. Their advertising isn't too effective if I just recently noticed it. I don't know about everyone else but I just look for people that I know and read their entries. I honestly never read any of their ads before last month and they don't make me want to go to thier sites. Their sentences are totally illegible and senseless. Anyone that would go to these sites are crazy, I would think they would be carrying virus' with such nonsense. Anyway, I hope you have some luck getting rid of these clowns. It's such a shame that you spend so much money to have a nice site and they clutter it up with so much mess.

We hope not, but just in case, if there is a flyer floating around that says we are playing march 11th at the cancun, this is not true. i've emailed the guy setting it up 3 times with no response, and the show was starting to seem all goofy with high potential for problems arising. We decided to avoid such problems. Although, we do have a show coming up at Paulie's bar in Bloomington on April 29th (Arbor Day), unless a change occurs. Thank you Tracy for the cookies. They were of perfect softness.
